When choosing a holiday, It’s so important to find a family child friendly atmosphere if you are going abroad with babies, toddlers or young children. A welcoming, safe environment is essential to whether parents will get chance to relax and enjoy quality time with their children. The Charente region of France is a great choice for children as it’s wonderfully unpretentious and is very welcoming and friendly.
A Family favourite experience we can definitely recommend is attending a village festival over the summer. Sometimes there are outdoor banquets where visiting guests are invited to pay a fee to eat a formidable feast with the locals. It’s worth seeking out participation in local traditions like this in the French countryside as the children get to play and experience French culture in a relaxed atmosphere.
Picnics are a fast, fun, budget-friendly and child friendly option for lunch. Why not take advantage of the great outdoor markets and boulangeries in every town for supplies, then pick a spot with a lovely view ….you are spoilt for choice in Charente.
A carafe of water is free in most restaurants and cafes if you ask.
A travel tip that makes parents happy is that a glass of house wine is usually cheaper than a soda everywhere in France and here is no exception lol!
A comfortable base is a must for parents with young children. Our gites are Fully equipped with stair gates, cots and highchairs, along with plastic plates and spoons etc
There is a Safety child lock on our pool gate. We keep the whole area immaculately clean, especially the pool itself, which we believe is imperative for avoiding people getting sick, especially children, who are usually rarely out of the pool. The pool gets “fall safe” covered at night, and again the area is child locked.
Whats new for 2018 at Les Vieilles Ombres
The grounds are set in a large walled enclosure with a garden, complete with swings and slides and plenty of room to play. We even have a little fairy garden that lights up at night.
If your little ones need time out from the sun or a rainy downpour, there’s a large Enclosed, shaded barn with a huge age-varied collection of toys, games, books and colouring.
All our gites are Family sized and also house plenty of toys and books (and nightlights on request). All have washing machines and plenty of fridge/freezer space for feeding and clothing the tribe.
We provide a list of local and not as local family friendly places of interest and recommended activities. There are also miles of beautiful Charente countryside, parks, towns and riverside beaches to explore.
